News from High Point Market
More than 75,000 people converged on High Point, NC in October for the Fall High Point Market, the largest home furnishings industry trade show in the world.
An annual highlight of the market are the Pinnacle Awards, created in 1995 by the American Society of Furniture Designers (ASFD) to promote better design quality and encourage recognition of furniture designers. The awards celebrate designs produced in large numbers for sale to consumers and are not intended for craft products or products produced in limited quantities. The winners for 2016 were announced at the Furniture Designers’ annual awards banquet, held in the International Home Furnishings Center in High Point. This year’s winners, with notes from the judges, are:
Occasional Storage – Zhin Cabinet, a sophisticated, clean case design with great enhancements. The hardware and legs have a modern Asian influence. The visual references and contrast of the red interior accent color are a cool surprise.
Stationary Upholstery – Ward Chair provides a masculine edge to a great chair. Well designed with a unique combination of wood and metal in its open arms. The complementing high sheen metal finish and soft wood tone with biscuit-tufted upholstery elements exudes classic contemporary.
Motion Upholstery – Hudson Style In Motion’s new American Leather Style In Motion collection offers the ultimate in stylish, comfortable motion furniture – with sophisticated designs, multiple customization options and an innovative clean-profile mechanism. Polished chrome legs bring the Hudson off the ground, and the chair’s design has sturdy dimensions and ample room for the “comfortable” American lifestyle. The high back design conceals an articulating headrest and provides optimum support when in full recline or TV-watching position.
Casual Dining – William and Whirl has a clean, light and natural look, perfect for indoor or outdoor. The chair is versatile for any room. It uffers beautiful Mid-Century Modern lines combined with traditional teak wood and metal materials in warm and natural finishes.
Occasional Tables – Pierre Coffee Table, an elegant, futuristic looking coffee table made from regal materials, with angular, faceted lines of a metal frame coupled with beveled glass insets. The Carrara marble goes well with the gold and the glass.
