Nova Triad Homes: Taking the Epcon Lifestyle to the Next Level

Charlie and Carol Haile affectionately describe themselves as "trailing grandparents". Although they loved their longtime home in Lake Mary, Florida, and the active social life they had built there, the opportunity to be closer to their growing family was simply too important to ignore. With grandchildren ages 3 years and 9 months, they didn't want to be the grandparents who lived nine hours away. So, they made the decision to relocate to the greater Winston-Salem area. Having lived in seven homes throughout their life together — four of them custom-built — the Hailes had a clear vision for what they wanted in their next home. They found everything they were looking for, and more, at Nova Triad Homes' Salem Brooke community in Clemmons.

Proclaiming to have loved every home they have lived in, Carol Haile says they are particularly happy with their new home in Salem Brooke. "This home suits us perfectly for the stage of life we are in, and even though it is not a custom home, per se, the builder understood what was important to us and made all the necessary design accommodations that have given us exactly what we wanted with no compromises."

THE BUILDER

Nova Triad Homes - Andy Dreyfuss

Nova Triad Homes is led by Andy Dreyfuss, who partnered with Epcon Communities to bring Epcon's award-winning home designs and signature Low-Maintenance Lifestyle to the Triad. Recognized as an industry leader, Epcon Communities has spent decades researching the needs and preferences of Active Adult homebuyers, creating thoughtfully designed floor plans that prioritize comfort, convenience, and the way people want to live.

Today's Active Adult buyers are often experienced homeowners who know exactly what they want from their next home. Many are looking to simplify their lives without compromising on quality, craftsmanship, or luxury. That's why Epcon homes feature spacious, primarily single-level living, private outdoor courtyards, and open, functional layouts designed for everyday living and effortless entertaining.

Because these homes require larger homesites to accommodate their unique designs and private outdoor living spaces, Andy carefully selects and develops communities that meet Nova Triad Homes' high standards for location, quality, and lifestyle.

"We build Epcon designs, but we also tailor those designs to fit the needs of our local market," says Dreyfuss. "Our floor plans continue to evolve based on homeowner feedback, ensuring every home delivers the exceptional lifestyle our buyers are looking for."

THE COMMUNITIES

Nova Triad currently has seven Triad neighborhoods in the close-out stage, the development stage, or somewhere in between. Pricing ranges from the low $300,000s to over $600,000, depending on the home style and community. Dreyfuss is constantly scouting new property, but very few parcels fit the bill. A Nova Triad community is not just about the homes — it's about the lifestyle those homes and their communities afford.

"Our communities must be near at least one great grocery store — a Harris Teeter or a Lowe's — and near a Walgreens or CVS. Our communities are close to medical services, and I always want residents to have easy access to major arteries to make it easy to get to where they want to go. Additionally, I want to locate our communities near coffee shops, great restaurants, a golf course, or YMCA, and other recreational and cultural outlets."

The aesthetics of the site are important as well, and residents love that communities are typically ringed with trees and enjoy peace and quiet.

The Fairways at Eden is a great example. This parcel will be home to 11 homes, and all have a golf course view from either the rear or the front of the home. The golf course is stunning, and green fees are reasonable for a public course. The site will only be about 50% developed, leaving plenty of undeveloped space to preserve the natural beauty of the neighborhood.

The beauty of these communities is also designed to encourage interaction among neighbors. There is a sense of built-in community with every Nova Triad neighborhood thanks to its focus on lifestyle. Their homebuyers often enjoy being social and have the time to cultivate meaningful connections with neighbors. Residents are encouraged to start a book club, organize a golf group, or gather for other regular get-togethers, and it doesn't take much prompting for those friendships to flourish.

THE HOMES

The first home under construction at The Fairways at Eden will serve as a model and is one of Epcon's most popular floorplans, the Portico, with about 1,800 sq. ft. of living space. Although a second floor is a popular option with a bonus room and bathroom (that serves as an excellent private suite for an adult child still living at home), main-level living is the primary focus. Two bedrooms and two baths on the main level are universal with all Epcon plans. Additionally, the designs feature lots of windows for a bright, airy interior feel, lots of open space on the main level, and — in consideration of the fact that most buyers are downsizing from much larger homes — lots of storage space.

While the design considerations on the interior are immediately apparent to buyers, the outside space gets equal attention. Large outdoor patios are standard. And these patios aren't an afterthought — these are designed to be integral to the home. The patios are large, and access is available from the main living area as well as the primary suite — it's all about flow and lifestyle. Owners can personalize their patio to their liking; some choose an open patio, while others elect the screened-in version. Both open patios and enclosed screen porches have a covered area with a ceiling fan. Best of all, each patio is designed for privacy so that residents can entertain on their patio without feeling exposed to any neighbors. The patios are reflective of what today's buyers are seeking, which is more opportunity to interact with nature and the great out-of-doors through outdoor living spaces, access to walking trails, and nature in general.

Another new Nova Triad neighborhood, Parkview in Mocksville, is in the planning stages, with homes available for sale by late fall. Nova Triad will be introducing three totally new plans:  The Kent, The Essex, and The Sterling. These new plans will be smaller than the plans at Salem Brooke and The Fairways at Eden, but will have the same beautiful stone and brick exterior appointments and will maintain the same design standards that make an Epcon plan special. Close proximity to Mocksville's quaint downtown area will make these homes desirable even before buyers realize the excellent price point beginning in the low $300,000s.

THE NOVA TRIAD WAY

The degree to which the Nova Triad team personalizes each home often makes buyers feel as though their home is truly custom-built. According to Charlie and Carol Haile, they made extensive modifications to their floor plan. "That is what was so appealing," says Carol Haile. "Every time I asked a question … the answer from the Nova Triad team was, 'Yes, we can do that!'"

The Hailes customized their home by adding a sitting room with an archway off the primary bedroom, an upstairs guest suite with a full bathroom, and a screened porch. That willingness to personalize every home reflects the company's culture. As Carol Haile explains, "They really worked with us to give us everything we wanted — we have never worked with a team that was so focused on our being happy with the final result."

One of the primary players in that calculus was Rebecca Mallard.

Rebecca is a Nova Triad veteran who came to the industry from a related customer-centric field. She and Tonia Grinstead are Nova Triad's two customer-facing representatives, handling sales and much more for the company. Tonia, also a long-standing Nova Triad team member, has an innate sense for these homes, the active adult buyer, and what it takes for a perfect fit for both.

The Hailes worked with Rebecca Mallard and found a relationship that "immediately clicked". They credit Rebecca with immediately understanding their mindset and seeing their vision. Rebecca guided them through every design decision and interior and exterior selection and was with them through closing and beyond. The Hailes report that, 9 months after moving in, they are still getting "checked on" by Rebecca and the Nova Triad team to make sure they are delighted. And they are. As Charlie Haile says, "Every now and then, either I or Carol will just remark, 'I just love this home!'" — what could be better than that?
